Breeding Services

There are several different ways to breed llamas.  Unlike most mammals, llamas are induced ovulators.  This means that the female do not go into "heat" as most other mammals.  For llamas it is the male llama's orgling ("singing") along with the mating process itself that causes ovulation.  This means that llamas can mate at any time.

Usually, a female that has been impregnated will "spit-off" males because breeding can cause a pregnancy to be aborted.

Artificial insemination is usually not a viable option with llamas.  One reason is the difficulty in inducing ovulation.

Some breeders will turn the female llama into a pasture with the stud and allow nature to take its course over a day or two.

We prefer the "hand-breeding" method which involves introducing the male and female llama in s relatively small space and separating them once the breeding session is completed.  Usually this takes about 30 minutes.  We then reintroduce the male llama a week or two later to see if the female will "spit-off" the male llama.  If so, there is a good probability that an egg has implanted in the uterus.

Our herd sires are registered with the ILR and in addition to having won awards themselves, come from lineages with champion ancestors.

We guaranteed a live birth.  If not we will rebred at no additional charge.

Your place or ours. Our studs will travel which is not always the case.  Many males are too shy to mate outside of there home territory. This allows your llama to stay at home and deliver in familiar surroundings.

Sizzlin' Cafe au Lait

Cafe is a Sizzlin' Hot offspring.  Sizzlin' produced many champion llamas during his lifetime. Cafe passes on many of Sizzlin's traits.  His offspring are very intelligent, quiet, curious, good natured and have fabulous fiber.

Sir Duncan of Aberdeen

Duncan is out of our original herd matriarch, Elizabeth and King Kamaha.  He passes on King Kamaha's athleticism and heavy fiber.  When Duncan was pastured near the street the neighbors loved how he greeted them on their daily walks.  He is a bit more spirited than Cafe, a trait he passes to his crias.

Stud Fee
