It's easy to share your life with llamas.

If you are seeking a gentle, quiet companion to share long walks and good times...who is intelligent, independent, easy-going and easy to care for...one whose curiosity and social antics will humor you...you've found it.  Llamas!

Versatile Working Partners

What are llamas used for?  You're not the first to ask!  Aside from their natural beauty as they quietly browse their pastures, llamas are easily trained to accept a halter and lead, to load into a vehicle, to carry a pack or to pull a cart.  As pack animals, their hardiness and common sense have made them popular among hikers and the U.S. Forest Service.  They navigate difficult trails with great agility, and their padded feet have little impact on the backcountry.  Llama fiber (wool) makes a strong, warm, oil-free yarn favored by spinners, weavers and felters.  Llamas are increasingly used as guard animals, effectively protecting against coyotes and other predators.  Yet, they are especially gentle around children and the elderly and are often taken into schools, nursing homes and other special-care environments to visit and delight.  Scouts, 4-H clubs and other youth organizations have discovered that working with and showing llamas provide many educational and entertaining experiences for their members.  And the calendar is full of competitive events organized by and for llama owners nationwide.

Ideal Family Companions

Llamas are kind and gentle animals.  Their easily-managed physical size, superb health and simple needs appeal to young families, busy couples or retired folks with even small acreage.  Though llamas have distinctly varied personalities, all share a serene, dignified (some might even say "royal") nature that makes them easy to live with or travel with.

On hikes or local outings, their natural curiosity gives them a delightful habit of coming close to sniff strangers who are enchanted by the llama's beauty and fascinating communications abilities.

If you have yet to meet a llama, don't be surprised if you find yourself in love at first sight!  And after that, it just keeps getting better.  Because the more you learn about llamas, the more you'll want them to be part of your life.

The llama community is a wonderful group of folks who enjoy both llamas and the delightful, down-to-earth people these unique animals have brought together.  There are several local and national organizations dedicated to working for llamas and the people who care about them.  Check out some of the links on this web site.
