Memorial

There are both llamas and people who are no longer with us.  Some are playing in the big llama pasture in the great beyond, while others have moved to a new home not far away...

Chester Klein 1914-2004

Ches, Sarah and Jasmine Bev's dad Chester Klein died at home in March 2004 after a short illness.  Ches was initially the unwilling participant in the llama business.  He lived with Bev and Barney on the farm and had no choice but to get involved.  He witnessed his first live-birth here, hand fed Katie for months after her mother died and was adopted by Jasmine as the best person in the whole-wide-world (he fed her apples!).  We all miss his happy personality and his enthusiasm about the llamas.

In Memory

Katie

Inka Dinka

Inka Dinka died 7 weeks after giving birth to Katie.  She had been attacked by a pack of domestic dogs (house pets) and never fully recovered.

Buddy

Buddy died of throat cancer (no he never smoked).  He joined us from the Edgerly's Farm here in Napa and really enjoyed living in the front pasture by the road greeting joggers and visitors.

Stormy

Stormy

Stormy was our second llama.  He was Cafe's "roommate" and always ready for anything.  Stormy was born with a heart murmur (a hole in the heart) that prevented him from carrying fully weighted packs, but he was always the llama that wanted to go hiking, on parades or anywhere. He lived much longer than the experts predicted.  Our lives were blessed to have him a member of the family.

Rockette

Rockette

Rockette was our old lady.  She joined us from the Edgerly's Farm here in Napa along with her daughter Jasmine, Buddy, and Pierre where she had been the matriarch.  Rockette was not the matriarch here on the farm, but she always maintained her dignity and formed her own little clique within the herd structure.  She was about 25 years old when she died.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth

Elizabeth was our third llama and our first female.  She was the herd matriarch and ran the herd with a gentle touch.  She suffered a unfortunate injury when she caught her fur on a pole while scratching an itch.  She wrapped herself around the pole so tightly she severely damaged the brachial nerve on her right foreleg.  After 4 months of physical therapy, she contracted an infection that spread quickly.

Jasmine

Jasmine

Jasmine always felt she was Ches' llama and after his death, she was never able to find her place in the herd.  When the herd matriarch, Elizabeth died, the changing dynamics of the herd were very stressful for Jasmine.  Her attempts to stake a claim for the leadership of the herd were rebuffed by the other llamas and led to development of stomach ulcers which llamas are prone to.  The pain from the ulcers led to depression which worsened the ulcers to the point that eventually perforations formed leading to her death.  Jasmine was the "official greeter" who would run to greet anyone entering the pastures.  We will miss her.

Dougal is a gelding that was learning to pack when he went home with our mailman.  He is very friendly and has no fear.  He is willing to do anything!  Dougal was born on the ranch and is out of Elizabeth and Cafe.  He now lives on a farm on Silverado Trail with his buddy Jaime and the family horse.

Eddie

Eddie lived on a 40 acre vineyard at the top of Atlas peak.  He and his buddy Bennie from the Rainbow Ridge Llama Ranch in Petaluma have moved to a new farm in the Napa Valley.

Liam

Liam is a Heavy/Medium wooled llama.  He is out of Katie and Duncan.  His confirmation is good with great looking ears and he is very alert and inquisitive.  Liam was born here as were his parents Duncan and Katie.  Liam has moved to a wonderful family here in Napa!
